About us
The Civil Society Pillar is represented by the Board of Directors of the International Steering Committee (ISC), an independent body within the Community of Democracies (CoD). This body is elected by the Civil Society Assembly and aims to advise the CoD. The Civil Society Pillar develops its strategies and activities to promote civic space, proposes areas for consideration, and expresses the views of civil society during the deliberations of the ISC Steering Committee.
The Civil Society Pillar (CSP) is composed of non-governmental entities, civil society organizations, foundations, regional networks, and global NGOs. Since September 2022, the PSC is chaired by Enrique de Obarrio, current president of REDLAD – Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy.
The Civil Society Pillar of the CoD is represented by a permanent, elected executive board. It is currently composed of 24 leaders representing civil society organizations from around the world.

The mission of the Civil Society Pillar is to share the democratic realities and trends not only of the countries that are part of the CoD but also of other countries whose situation may affect democracy and its principles, to develop strategies aimed at expanding civic spaces, fighting corruption and strengthening democratic processes hand in hand with governments.
